Asian Vision Institute

Background 

Establishing in Cambodia since 2019, The Asian Vision Institute (AVI) is an independent think tank based in Cambodia. The vision of AVI is:

  • To impact positive changes through knowledge co-creation and multi-stakeholder partnerships 
  • To build peaceful, inclusive, adapting resilient and sustainable societies in Asia
  • To promote Asian wisdom and perspective and the values of humanity, peace, and cultural diversity in Asia.  

Main Activities 

  • Research and Publication: AVI prioritizes quality research and publication for knowledge contribution and knowledge sharing throughout the society. Since the establishment, AVI scholars published hundreds of publications in different topics and themes, in 5 main categories: Commentary, Policy Brief, Perspective, Book and Magazine. Alongside with institute’s publications, AVI scholars also publishes articles on several national and internation news and media outlets. Different types of research are conducted by our scholars and experts, ranging from desk research, base-line research, field research and survey, etc. 
  • Training and Capacity-building Programme: To share and transform from intellectual knowledge into action, AVI conducts and provides training and capacity-building programmes to a large variety of audience, including: policy maker, scholar, professional, young academicians, etc. To name a few, AVI conducts: (1) Women’s Digital Entrepreneurship Programme for young entrepreneurs, especially women; (2) Geopolitical Analysis training programme for local news reporter and young journalists; (3) Integrated farming techniques for local people at several provinces, etc.  
  • Programme and Project Implementation: AVI creates programmes and projects to provide positive impacts to the society. TECHO 100 Villages is one of our well-known flagship project which aims to develop innovative and sustainable solutions to rural development in Cambodia and Asia. Besides, AVI also has Fish and Rice Corridor Project, Food Security Project, Cultural Corridor Project, Road Safety Behaviour in Cambodia Project, AVI-SDGs Dialogue, etc. Each of our programme and project contains several important aspects, including but not limited to, research, survey, conference, event, discussion, ect., that make our programme and project comprehensive and value-added. 
  • Policy Research, Policy Dialogue and Discussion: With our potential expertise, knowledge and network, AVI conduct policy researches and policy discussions in areas of Foreign Policy, Development Policy, Social Support Policy and others. Targeted audiences, including policy-decision maker, policy maker, scholar, implementor, and relevant stakeholders are brought to the discussion​ for comprehensive and better policy formulation and implementation.

Partnership with Ponlok Chomnes

Under the Ponlok Chomnes Program Phase II, AVI is implementing a research project on The Importance of Women Participation in Climate Change Mitigation in Community-Based Forestry (CBF)”. The project focuses on research, policy dialogue, and collaboration with stakeholders to promote gender-responsive climate action. It aims to highlight women’s role in climate mitigation, contribution to policy dialogue, and support sustainable livelihoods in Mondulkiri, Kampong Thom, and Preah Vihear. By strengthening women’s leadership and community resilience, AVI contributes to inclusive and sustainable climate policies in Cambodia. Under this partnership, AVI anticipates: 

  1. Promoting policy dialogue by promoting evidence-based policies that address the root causes of the identified issues and contribute to sustainable development and society,
  2. Enhancing collaboration by facilitating close partnerships between stakeholders and knowledge sharing among stakeholders to foster innovative and collective action,
  3. Providing capacity building by supporting governments, related organisations, and communities in implementing effective strategies to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals,
  4. Improving the livelihood of people and the community and conducting a case-study on the behavioral change of people in a selected community toward realising a more inclusive, sustainable, and resilient society, and
  5. Disseminating the useful findings from the research to stakeholders, including policymakers and experts in the related fields.
