A Discussion on the Role of Buddhism in Contemporary Cambodian Gender Roles

Working Paper by Young Researchers Program | A Discussion on the Role of Buddhism in Contemporary Cambodian Gender Roles | by Future Forum’s Young Research Fellow, CHIN Leabphea.

This paper discusses how the current practice of Buddhism shapes the concept of womanhood in contemporary Cambodian society. Interviews were used as the primary research method to understand this question. Specifically, three women were interviewed across three generations to gain insight into their perception of the practice of Buddhism and female roles in society. Additional research methods included conducting field observations at Pagoda’s within Phnom Penh, and content analysis of online preaching materials.
